Skye Sportives

Saturday 26 August 2017
SKY09A444-1024x683

Event Description

Quad burning ascents. Heart racing descents. Majestic mountain scenery. Rider camaraderie. Highland hospitality.

At Hands On Events, we know that the best cyclosportives are about passionate people coming together to challenge themselves in spectacular landscapes.

Both the Skye Mor and Skye Beag start and finish in the village of Portree where the local community provide extremely enthusiastic support thus ensuring a warm Highland welcome for all participants. Both routes leave Portree and head north up the east coast of the island, passing The Old Man of Storr, a 160ft basalt pillar left standing alone after the volcano which produced it has long since weathered away. All riders then continue around the wild and beautiful Trotternish Peninsula, right to the Northern tip of the Isle of Skye and on to the port of Uig – gateway to the Western Isles. Riders really will feel that they are on the edge of the world as the route swings South with the Cuillin Mountains directly ahead. Mountains don’t get any more dramatic than this! 10km after leaving Uig the routes diverge – Riders on the Beag head straight back to the finish in Portree whereas those tackling the Mor turn right and head for Dunvegan, home of Danny Macaskill. The Mor route then continues on some fantastic and rarely explored roads down to the Sligachan Hotel where a smooth newly surfaced road sweeps north back all the way back to the finish at Portree.
