BOOM! Its time for The 2013 Ayrshire Mountainbike Series! Its time for Extreme Valley Riders bike club and Craufurdland Estate to get together again and put on some tasty tracks that will make for some challenging racing over May, June, July & August so we can find the best 2013 Ayrshire MTB racers. The series will be a Scottish Cycling GO-RIDE event, this means all courses will be ridable by all levels of rider, they will be cheap to enter (around £3) and they will be run in a relaxed, safe format. The series will consist of 4 x Mini Downhill races and 3 x short course XC races with a points tally at the end to decide the overall winner. There will be a podium and prizes at each race. Each XC and DH race will be run on a different course layout to keep the racing fresh, and Craufurdland Estate and EVR Bikepark have kindly agreed to host the Ayrshire Mountainbike Series races. Jamie Cooper, EVR’s bike coach said; “Reaching the required level to race at SDA and SXC events can put some riders off, we want these grass roots type events to provide a stepping stone from the top quality youth coaching that our scottish clubs provide, to the more competitive SDA and SXC race series. The AMS is part of a growing trend of more accessible racing that Scottish Cycling are keen to promote”. What is short course XC? It has all the same ingredients as normal XC, with a sprint start, multiple laps on technical terrain with trail features such as roots, rocks, turns and berms but on a shorter scale. The aim is to complete the set number of laps in the fastest time. What is a Mini Downhill? Downhill mountain biking is a fast and exciting sport, pitting man and machine against the clock to find the fastest riders!!
